Island Lake resorts hazard and risk awareness

Island Lake is private property. Access to the property is at no charge. All users freely accept and fully assume all risks associated with travelling on the property.

Visiting Island Lake Lodge involves various risks, dangers and hazards, including,
but not limited to:

  • slips, trips and falls;
  • uneven or cracked surfaces;
  • variations in the terrain or surface including but not limited to ruts, crevices, holes, rocks, gravel, tree roots and other natural objects;
  • ungroomed and unkept grounds, trails and areas;
  • wet and/or slippery ground and floors;
  • encounters with domestic and wild animals including dogs and bears;
  • dim or low lighting;
  • ice, snow, and slush in parking lots and on stairs, roads, sidewalks and pathways;
  • loss of balance;
  • changing weather conditions, including frequent thawing and freezing in the winter;
  • failure to act safely or within one’s own ability;
  • inattention or inexperience of other persons, and
  • NEGLIGENCE OF OTHERS AND NEGLIGENCE ON THE PART OF THE OCCUPIER.

  • rapidly changing weather conditions;
  • slips, trips and falls;
  • loss of balance;
  • uncontrolled, unmarked and uninspected terrain;
  • collision with other pedestrians, mountain bikers, vehicles;
  • encounters with domestic and wild animals including dogs and bears;
  • fallen timber, branches, rocks, roots, logs, loose gravel, steep slopes or unstable ground, streams, creeks, rivers, open water, ponds and lakes, sink holes, rock slides, snowfields, avalanches, steep cliffs;
  • becoming lost or separated from one’s group;
  • encounters with dangerous flora or fauna;
  • failure to act safely or within one’s own ability;
  • inattention or inexperience of other persons;  
  • difficult communication and in the event of an accident, rescue, medical treatment and evacuation may not be available or may be delayed; and
  • NEGLIGENCE OF OTHERS AND NEGLIGENCE ON THE PART OF THE OCCUPIER.

Mountain biking takes place on steep and rugged terrain that is both physically and technically challenging and will expose the rider to many risks, dangers and hazards. These include, but are not limited to the following:

  • rapidly changing weather conditions;
  • slips, trips and falls;
  • loss of balance;
  • high speed descents;
  • difficulty or inability to control one’s speed and direction;
  • rapid or uncontrolled acceleration on hills and inclines;
  • extreme variation in cycling terrain including steep or slippery sections, trees, roots, tree stumps, logs, steep cliffs, rocks, rock drops, loose gravel, holes, depressions, streams and creeks;
  • constructed features such as bridges and berms;
  • falling or crashing off a bike, head first and otherwise;
  • improperly adjusted or maintained bikes and other equipment;
  • mechanical failure of equipment;
  • collisions with natural and constructed objects, other mountain bikers, vehicles, pedestrians;
  • encounters with domestic and wild animals including dogs and bears;
  • becoming lost or separated from ones group;
  • encounters with dangerous flora or fauna;
  • failure to act safely or within one’s own ability;
  • inattention or inexperience of other persons;
  • difficult communication and in the event of an accident, rescue, medical treatment and evacuation may not be available or may be delayed; and
  • NEGLIGENCE OF OTHERS AND NEGLIGENCE ON THE PART OF THE OCCUPIER.

Use of the Lake or any other bodies of water, SWIMMING, ANGLING AND USE OF A WATERCRAFT at or around island lake lodge involves various risks, dangers and hazards including, but not limited to the following:

  • rapidly changing weather conditions, strong winds, lightening;
  • strong currents and rough water, variable and unknown water depths;
  • exposure to extremely cold water, hypothermia;
  • exposure to contaminated water;
  • slips, trips and falls;
  • unknown water conditions;
  • drowning;
  • collision with other persons, watercrafts or other objects, above or below the water;
  • entrapment in debris or objects;
  • overturning or capsizing of watercraft;
  • encounters with domestic and wild animals including dogs and bears;
  • encounters with dangerous flora or fauna;
  • failure to act safely or within one’s own ability;
  • inattention or inexperience of other persons;
  • difficult communication and in the event of an accident, rescue, medical treatment and evacuation may not be available or may be delayed; and
  • NEGLIGENCE OF OTHERS AND NEGLIGENCE ON THE PART OF THE OCCUPIER.

BackCountry Skiing / snowboarding, cross country skiing (nordic), hiking (Winter) and snowshoeing involves various risks, dangers and hazards including, but not limited to the following:

  • Rapidly changing weather conditions;
  • avalanches;
  • snow immersion;
  • trees, tree wells, tree stumps and forest deadfall;
  • variable and difficult conditions;
  • streams, creeks, and exposed holes in the snow pack above streams or creeks.
  • cliffs; crevices;
  • snowcat roads, road-banks or cut-banks;
  • exposed rock, earth, ice, and other natural objects;
  • collision with snowcats, snowmobiles or other vehicles;
  • encounters with domestic and wild animals including dogs and bears;
  • collision with other persons;
  • loss of balance or control;
  • slips, trips and falls;
  • becoming lost or separated from ones group;
  • failure to act safely or within one’s own ability;
  • inattention or inexperience of other persons;
  • difficult communication and in the event of an accident, rescue, medical treatment and evacuation may not be available or may be delayed; and
  • NEGLIGENCE OF OTHERS AND NEGLIGENCE ON THE PART OF THE OCCUPIER.
